BLESSING OF SOLIDARITY
Holy One, Source of Abundance and Grace, God of Justice-Love
Here we are again Praying. Here we are again Witnessing. Here we are again Demanding to be seen and heard We come, some of us, out of the shadows And into the light of this bright day To speak out for inherent worth and dignity of every person. We come united in our desire to change hearts and minds to see the humanity in all of our siblings. We come praying that the hearts of our legislators be softened to extend genuine care to all of our siblings. We come praying that the mind of Darrell Issa, and all of our legislators, that they be opened to see a path toward citizenship that includes rather than excludes, that does not militarize our border but rather insures that communities are safe, and with a plan that keeps families together instead of tearing them apart. |
Holy One, Source of Abundance and Grace, God of Justice-Love
We come witnessing to the power of the people and the force of moral witness. We come witnessing to the tenderness of our stories and the truth they show. We come witnessing to the determination of standing in solidarity with one another. Side by side we stand - sisters and brothers in this struggle. Give us strength to continue, to never give up, to be brave in speaking the truth of our cause. And truth to power. Bless each one here. Keep each one safe. Give us courage. Bless us with your grace, and with unfailing assurance that you are with us in and through this struggle. |
IMMIGRATION PRAYER
We come from various places, and backgrounds.
We come bringing all of ourselves to this precious work of justice-making.
We come with joys and sorrows.
We come with our wholeness and our hopes.
We come with our doubts and our fears.
We come seeking understanding and companionship on this journey toward wholeness.
We come to be seen, heard, and known.
We come to see, to hear, to know.
We pause for a moment to acknowledge all that we bring with us and all that is around us
Our interconnectedness reminds us that we care not only for ourselves or our intimates,
but also for those we don’t know, but whose suffering we feel, whose cause we would champion.
We hold in our hearts and prayers those who suffer from unjust immigration laws;
We hold in our hearts and prayers families who are separated, and longing to be together;
We hold in our hearts and prayers all who work on behalf of justice;
We hold in our hearts all people washed in waves of destruction and discrimination.
May waves of love and concern and support wash over them and bring them hope.
For the people whose suffering we will witness those affected by oppressive structures,
May we be bold in our witness to the presence of compassion,
the power of action,
and strength of the web which holds us all.
And for each and all here, this day, may we be present to each other, to our stories, our longings, and our desire for justice. Amen.

LOVE IS THE SOUL FORCE - IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
Love is the soul force.
Love is the soul force that meets us in our fears, which counters hatred, bigotry, and the demonizing of others.
Love is the soul force that meets us in our brokenness, which counters indifference, denial, and despair.
Love is the soul force that meets us in our longing, which calls us to compassion, humility, and forgiveness.
Love is the soul force that meets us in our joy, which calls us to laughter, life, and peace.

Love is the soul force that meets us in our joy, which calls us to laughter, life, and peace.
CHILD OF THIS HOLY NIGHT (CHRISTMAS REFLECTION)
Oh Child of this holy night
Born so long ago yet, present in our hearts and minds
Present in our hopes and dreams:
For ourselves – in those hidden places of anguish or broken relationships
For those we love – those suffering from despair or fear or illness
For those we glimpse but do not know – the poor, the prisoner, the enemy
For those a world away in devastation, desolation, displacement.
Oh Child of this holy night
Born so long ago yet present in our hearts and minds
We pray for our world at once broken and beautiful, fragile and flourishing, aching and whole.
Oh Child of this holy night
this is a night of holiness and hope
For souls lost and forgotten
For hearts shattered and battered
For bodies disregarded and degraded.
Oh Child of this holy night
May we this night and in the days and nights to come be reminded of the humility and peace that was expressed in your life…
May we this night and in the days and nights to come be inspired to acts of compassion and justice by the life that you lived…
May we this night and in the days and nights to come be nurtured by the gentleness and Love you came to embody…
O Child of this holy night may we know that each night is holy, all life is sacred and we, each of us, are the bearers the holy and the sacred.
O Child of this holy night, may we proclaim with our lives and loves – joy to the world.

PASTORAL PRAYER
We come each week bringing all of ourselves.
We come with joys and sorrows,
We come with our wholeness and our brokenness,
We come seeking understanding and companionship,
We come to be seen, heard, and known.
We pause for a moment to acknowledge all that we bring with us and all that is around us.
Spirit of Life, Spirit of Love:
For all who are suffering here this day, may they filled this day with the comfort of our connectedness; assured of a community of support and of the pervasiveness of love;
For all who bring with them joy, may gratitude and generosity flow from us enlivening and enriching all life.
Our interconnectedness reminds us that we care not only for ourselves or our intimates, but also for those we don’t know, but whose suffering we feel.
We hold the people and beings of Chile in our hearts and prayers;
We hold in our hearts all people and beings washed in waves of destruction,
May waves of love and concern and support wash over them and bring them hope.
For the people whose suffering we will witness to this afternoon, those affected by oppressive structures, may we be bold in our witness to the power of compassion.
And for each and all here, this day, may you know always and everywhere that you are held in love and mystery deeper than you could ever know.
We come with joys and sorrows,
We come with our wholeness and our brokenness,
We come seeking understanding and companionship,
We come to be seen, heard, and known.
We pause for a moment to acknowledge all that we bring with us and all that is around us.
